MidDay Roundup
By: jon | July 1st, 2008Big tip of the Hat to Donovan over at DCenters. He channeled his Swami skills and sucked this post out of my brain, and put it ever so eloquently on his blog. So, go check it out. And I’ll start wearing my tin foil hat to keep all my ideas in from now on.
My take on his argument? DC knew what it was getting. A holding midfielder is not going to make Sportscenter on most days, and they knew that. With DP status comes increased scrutiny, and when a player’s game is nuanced and sophisticated and the player is not a self-promoting media whore (ahem, goldenballs), a fan can be excused for thinking Gallardo isn’t pulling his weight. I tend to fall on the side of Pro-Gallardo, solely because I believe what needs to happen, has already started, and that is a familiarity and likemindedness necessary for Gallardo’s talents to be utilized and the players around him to feed of his intelligent. Whenever I watch him operate in the midfield, the words that come to my mind are always “Soccer IQ”. He keenly anticipates defenders movements, and often times makes the smart pass. But his artistry comes in when he goes for the thru ball or back heel that is unexpected.
-DCUMD previews the game tonight, and again, we’re on the same page. His lineup looks very similar to mine.
And that’s really all the new stuff. Listen to the game tonight, I might liveblog it since my girlfriend will be getting her hair did.

Yeah, spot on about Limarzi.
“If it doesn’t say micromachines….”

Has Limarzi been hanging out in Edson Buddle’s apartment?

Charleston leading Houston 1-0. I think the Barra has ties with the Charleston group from a few years back. At any rate, obviously the more USL teams win tonight, the better I like our chances if we move on.

snap. an alcoholism joke.
I’ve switched to Rhino Radio. Slower, and more coherent.

we’re at half, zip zip. NY, Houston, and NE all down a goal.

AAAAAHHHHH….
That’s much better. I was getting twitches just listening to that drivel.
Hey, speaking of twitches and alcoholism, it’s a good time to crack one open indeed.

I thought for a minute he was going to say they’d meet Chicago or the Cleveland City Steamers.

Yes, there’s the answer to our scoring woes.

Now you’re in trouble Rochester.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAALLLLLLLL. Burch. DC 1, Roc 0

Our reserves are wholly unimpressive. I’m worried about Superliga.

and a brace for Burch.
Posted from

You don’t think we’ll be playing mostly regulars in SuperLiga?
Edit: 2-0, Burch again. He HAS been our best player on the sub list in the very recent.

I’d like to think so, but I bet tommy will try to mix in some of the subs more than usual. I would go balls to the wall, cause in MLS, its all about the playoffs anyway.

It’s also hard to tell without the visual how packed in the Rochester D was. They could’ve been playing bunker/counter for the entirety of the match.
Also this guy for Rochester likes to raise his voice like the Rhinos came within centimeters of scoring and then says the shot was just 5 or 6 feet off.

I was about to say that, from the guys timbor, I thought Rochester had about 1000 chances on goal.

I’m of the belief that while we are playing well (and I would love to keep the momentum going), the SuperLiga means less to me than the US Open Cup (now that the CL berth goes with it - huge difference). One million dollars. Yeah, It’s nice, but it doesn’t qualify us for anything internationally. The playoffs and the CL mean a hell of a lot more to me then anything else.

-That should’ve read “..THAN anything else.”-
One bottle down, thinking about a second bottle of wine (judgement fading)

Houston and KC have tied it late.
On the bright side, NY is losing 2-0 now.

aaaand Chicago is all over the Cleveland Steamers. Looks like a date with our old nemesis.

Don’t know how you can watch that stuff. Hopefully one day you’ll explain it to at a tailgate. Later.
