Sleeping Beauty
By: jon | July 31st, 2008When DC United decided to awake from it’s collective slumber, I decided I should probably do that same.

DC United trades a partial allocation (money) to San Jose in exchange for Ivan Guerrero. This, is a good move. Here’s why.
Our defense sucks. Horribly. Gonzalo Martinez is playing out of position in an attempt to provide wing play, which we also don’t have. Moving him back into the center, and slotting Guerrero as a left back strengthens us on those two counts. No more McTavish starting every game, or Burch getting blown by.
I’d have to think this isn’t the only move we’re making, although since Guerrero is making 125k+, we’ll have to move some bodies next time. We still need a keeper, and we need another winger. I’d also prefer another body off the bench capable of contributing more that the jokers occupying the pine at the moment.
What are your thoughts?

Good move, but only addresses part of the problem. Need a significant improvement in the back-up for Gallardo. If Gallardo can’t play every minute of every game we’re doomed unless they get a decent alternative. Dyachenko would have to improve to be a bad choice for central midfield. Giving him the ball results in a turn-over most of the time. His ball control and passing is terrible. Moving Jamie back just moves the problem to the forward line … and central midfield isn’t really Jamie’s strong suit.

Dude, Hot Rod is 2 wycked. I know he looks silly, but he will come good one day very soon. Have faith fellow United supporters.
