DC United turned down Stephen Appiah?
By: jon | December 21st, 2008Seriously? Apparently, yes.
If you don’t know who Stephen Appiah is, you aren’t paying close attention. He’s not Beckham or Blanco, but he’s a player that excels internationally, and has a good club record. Oh, also, he’s now being courted by AC Milan.
The issue appears to be that Gallardo won’t leave, even if he’s being pushed. Also, the upgrade for Emilio appears to be a little shortsighted, as if he wasn’t on a DP salary, it would have been possible to have Appiah and Gallardo. The FO may not have paid for 2 players making for 2 million a piece, but the point is moot.
Like other people on Bigsoccer, I almost wish I hadn’t heard this.

Interesting. I’d love to see more African internationals in MLS. Any idea why Fenerbahce let him go?

Oh, never mind. Just read the Goff piece and it’s all coming back to me.
Pity you couldn’t make it work. Maybe LA can have him once Beckham abandons us for the glamor of Milan.

I think the last thing United needs is another injury plagued midfielder. Perhaps Appiah is less broke than Gallardo though.
