Arguez staying with Hertha?
By: jon | January 15th, 2008According to Hertha Offside, it looks like Arguez may not only transfer to Hertha, but he might make the First team! That’s great news for him I’m sure, and I’m sure DC would be compensated. But here are the things I wonder…
If Arguez is good enough to start for a Bundesliga team, is he not also good enough for an MLS team? Do Germans see something in the youngster that we didn’t? Has he duped them? Have we been duped? I didn’t see enough of him in first team action last year to make real judgements.
Anyway, I’ll keep this updated as I hear more about it.

Why didn’t Arguez start for DCU. Well one thing this was his first year as a professional so it is not unlikely that he got much better as the year went on and wouldn’t be good enough at the beginning of the year. Also he missed 1-2 months sitting on the bench at the U-20 WC (where Rongen also rated him behind players such as Szetela and Dax McCarty).
He’s a holding midfielder and his opportunities were limited by the formation switch as well. With the 3-5-2 we had 2 holders and 3 players who filled them regularly (Carroll, Simms and Olsen). When we switched to the 4-4-2 Olsen moved to the wing, and Simms and Carroll were fighting over one spot. There was less room for him to have his spot. And Simms was on fire, why mess with that?
It’s also possible the Hertha sources are slightly more optimistic than warranted.

So in one year of not actually playing professionally, as I’m not sure he started ever, he’s gone from reserve quality to starting in the Bundesliga?
Granted about playing time last year, but if Hertha is right here, that seems large steps for Arguez to make in the course of 1 year of MLS reserve games.Posted from

Yes but he’s only 18 which is a time of life that you’d expect for a player to bloom more rapidly than almost any other time. He was also buried in the news enough that he could have had an injury and we never knew it. If the judgement and reporting is reliable its more likely that he hit breakout form just now than that he has demostrated play that good to his previous coaches and yet been ignored. I think that the news is iffy enough that it is likely he stays and spends time next year spelling Clyde (we lost Carroll Alpha, Beta should be cut and we need McTavish in back and Benny on the wing). Than we might be able to make judgements on actually seeing him play and not word of mouth.

i agree. I’d rather be informed than speaking out of my ass, or judging him on his FIFA2008 attributes.

All I can say is that everyone from florida is proud of him and espeically the folks from miami….He is the only and first one to make to europe…The one that actually accomplished the soccer dreams that all theses kids dream about..To make hertha he has to be a hell of a player… He has alot of talent , some talent that alot of proffesional players now don’t even have.. Real soccer clubs and coaches see this talent and see waht they can do with it…Your not only supposed to judge a soccer player but also help them and make them better.
