If you don’t give a damn, we don’t give a fu…..
By: jon | August 26th, 2009And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the last CONCACAF Champions League game my fiance and I will be attending until things change. The lineup put on the field to start was a sham. That backline had no prayer of stopping goals, as they had never played together, and one of the worst defenders I have ever seen, Avery John, was at center back. Sweet jesus, Tommy. Did you WANT to ruin James and Habraguira forever in one night?
Not to say that Habarugira is any great shakes. Aside from a few runs in the attack, I was less than impressed. Speaking of utterly unimpressive, Jaime Moreno. Uninterested, no effort, and embarrassing. I hope he watches that game and sees how apathetic he looked to the smattering of fans who made it out. I’m going to spend as much time on this post as Tommy spent thinking about this lineup.
Player Ratings
Wicks- 5 (Partially at fault for first goal, made two nice saves)
Habarugira- 4
Burch- 5
John- 0
James- 5 (Not too shabby.)
Jacobson- 4
Simms- 4
Allen- 2
Pontius- 6
McTavish- 3
Moreno- 0
SUBS:
Quaranta 6
Fred 5
Namoff 6

The end of that post gave me a good chuckle. I appreciate the passion. I feel the exact way about United but you have the ability to relay that frustration to paper. I , on the other hand, just start drinking.

I’ve been home for an hour and I’m still fuming. I watched the two early “offsides” calls and the handball that was the last step creating the first Toluca goal and had to stop. And delete from my DVR. Forever. Terrible team selection, terrible refereeing, terrible performances from more than half of the team, terrible finishing. I would be embarrassed if I ever performed my job that badly over such an extended period of time.

Sounds like the Dynamo and the US Open Cup. And I see you give Julius James a 5. Wow, I didn’t expect him to achieve his full potential so quickly.

To use multiple fire oriented cliches, James didn’t exactly set the world on fire, but he didn’t burn down the house either. Which puts him above the rest of the defenders. Good luck tonight in Panama.

The game in Panama was actually played last night. The TV broadcast is delayed until tonight. 1-1 result and 5 red cards.

A few things. I think it’s almost official. The team has given up on Soehn. Barring a miracle run to (and in) the playoffs, I don’t see how he returns next year. That’s part of the apathy we see in the players.
Enjoy what you can out of the rest of this year. It should be the last gasps of two great careers – Ben Olsen and Jaime Moreno. While we all are in fits about the direction of the team right now, the fact that we should have several hundred thousand freed up should mean a better team in the near future. We just may not recognize very many players.
I’ve seen stories in the Post and the Examiner about Bill Hamid signing on from the Academy any day now. I think he’s the first Academy player to make the jump to the first team in all of MLS. Might we see a jump in coverage, or at least SOME recognition of this feat? Bottom line though, Jon…I read about it here first. Nice work.
Maybe Janicki’s the odd man out? We can only hope.
