Snap Judgements: DC United 2, Atlante 3
By: jon | July 15th, 2008Just got back from this “game”, and I have a bone to pick with almost everyone. So let me detail my shit list.
Moreno. Ok bud, you know what you’re good at? Reading the game, and holding the ball. You know what you’re not good at? Running. That’s helpful in a Forward position. Actually, it’s helpful almost everywhere on the field.
Fred. You looked like you did not want to be out there tonight, and it was plain to everyone watching. You weren’t connecting with the midfield, you couldn’t cross the ball, and your attempts to get in the attack never materialized. Tonight, and for the last few weeks, you sir, have sucked. Get it together, or get gone.
Thompson. Everyone’s up your butt, but not me fella. You have what the English love, Endeavor. But that’s all you have. You are overmatched in 1 on 1 situations, and its obvious. You will be a useful reserve midfielder, but I need to stop seeing you so much.
Martinez. This was a game of two halfs for you, and neither one was any good. The first one saw you integrated in the attack, and messing everything up. I counted three consecutive screwups that ground the attack to a halt. Get it together.
Burch. I know you’re not a Centerback, but two goals are on you tonight. And your freekicks since your Open Cup game have sucked. Don’t get over confident.
Wells. You made a few good saves, and were at fault for the winning goal. As sad as this it, this game is better than your games a month ago.
Dyachenko. You suck.
The short list of players who didn’t piss me off?
Emilio, Doe, and Quaranta. My boy Tino came back too soon, and I’m sure put himself out for a few more weeks, but right off the bat, he contributed to Emilio’s goal, and put two long balls right on Fred’s food (which he squandered). He is an excellent talent, and needs to get better.
I’m done for tonight. Saturday, I want to see Dane Murphy, Mike Zaher, a full 90 of Cordiero, Jeremy Barlow, Pat Carroll, and a bunch of cardboard cutouts against Houston.

Disagree about Thompson. Wouldn’t exactly say I’m “up his butt,” but that one touch cross he sent over to Doe was impressive.

Why was Burch in the center? The funny thing is, Peralta is too damn slow to get too far forward. The whistle would blow for halftime before he got there. (He’s still my guilty vice on this team though, for some reason I just like his guile – go figure.)
We’re proving to be a bit thin at the CB position.
//Wait, this is MLS. We’re thin at EVERY position.//Actually I’d like to see Ryan Cordeiro too on Saturday. Why the hell not?
You know what? Let’s do what Germany did to Hungary back in ‘54 and not tip our hand at ALL leading up to the second game with them. You know, the game that actually counts. Let’s put out THIS lineup on Saturday:
Thorpe
Zaher–P. Carroll–Barlow–Carvallo
Murphy–Thompson–Dyachenko–Kirk
Fred–Maessner
I’d like to hear Kinnear’s response when we trot THAT out. “Carvallo at LEFT BACK?!?”
John Maessner gets tired of his youth players and unretires, saying he’ll do it himself. Fred gets to play with the B team. Carvallo? I’m being nice. Let’s get him on the books.
What could it possibly hurt? If ever there was a game that meant nothing (I mean…..NOTHING), this next one is it. Besides, I always liked Maessner. I’m sure he’d make a good Forward. At 39.
People…don’t give me any of that garbage about getting through to the next round somehow with a 1-2 record. We’re not beating Houston by 3 (watch Atlante and Chivas draw anyway). Why on earth would we want to go through more of this…this… SuperLiga?
I’d rather clean all the bathrooms in Union Station with my tongue.

Fred needs a kick start for you. He is clearly not the player he was last year. he has either gotten complacent or he is unhappy – someone so relatively young shouldnt have such a dramatic change in their game play in less than a years time. Maybe push him up to forward for a while? Who knows.
Superliga has been a good watch this year. That I will give it.
