Quick Reaction: vs. Chicago 6/16

By: Max J. | June 16th, 2007

Can we stop with the short corner already? No more. It’s getting to be like the part of Paris Hilton’s brain that controls common sense: you’d think the law of large numbers dictates that it would have worked at least once by now…and yet, here we are. Just cut it out. Please.

“Adequate” is the word I’d use upon first viewing. United made great use of Chicago’s (mostly Pickens’) mistakes, but there wasn’t a lot of sustained pressure. As nice as Emilio’s little flick was, only the third goal seemed like a serious, built-up offensive sequence as opposed to pouncing on an error. I’m willing to overlook the defensive mistakes because they were more or less predictable with Boswell out. Lastly, I am a big Dyachenko fan, but I’m hoping we’ve seen the first and last of Striker Rod. He wasn’t awful but still played generally as expected: serviceable if unspectactular and a bit of an anchor. It seems ridiculous to say we misssed Kpene’s touch in a game where we scored three goals, but I felt it.

The bottom line is three points, so I’ll shut up now. More tomorrow.

Thanks Max! I can not abide the short corner. A corner quick should be a guaranteed goal scoring opportunity, and by taking the corner short, a team almost always blows their advantage as the defense has more time to react.

It is something DCU really needs to work on. If memory serves me correctly, last year they didn’t score or a single goal from a corner - or they scored the fewest goals from corners in MLS. Either way, they need to work on this particular set piece.

Yep, I remember when there was a goal off a corner against Olimpia in March, it was said that we hadn’t scored off of one during all of 2006. Clearly an area needing some focus.

Rod is not a Russian name! In Russian ROD means GENDER! And you can’t be a man if you shorten your name to something shitty like that, ROD!
