Post Game: DCU 5 San Juan 1

I’m not going to spend a lot of time discussing a game we should of won big that we did win big. I saw some good things. And here we go…

Good Stuff!
- Christian Gomez. Every time I think that DC should cut ties with Gomez, he’ll play like he dad last night. He definitely elevates his game in tournament play, and teams need players that can do that. His runs were smart, and his passing was what was needed.
- The Backline. I’ll qualify this by saying, aside from the lapse that resulted in a goal, I liked what I saw from the back 4. True, they weren’t tested that often, but Wallace and Habarugira were doing well going forward and getting into the attack. Kocic said in his post game interviews that he had to reign them in a bit, but I don’t mind that.
- Finishing. Can’t knock 5 goals. Most of them were tap ins, but I’ve seen Fred miss easier. Khumalo’s second was the class finish of the night.
- Midfield. This team was flying all over, and cutting off 75% of the passes in midfield. Now, SJJ sucks, and I felt bad for them at points last night, but our midfield was gritty, and was flying to the ball.

Ratings:
Kocic 6 (when tested, did alright. Wasn’t at fault on goal, and communicated well)
Habarugira 6 (settled into the game after some early errant passes. not sure about him yet, but worth a continued look)
James 7 (liked what I saw, good marking)
