A somewhat diminished DC United 4, the shell of a professional team 1
By: jon | June 15th, 2008Dave from Red Bulls blog, I’m sorry you had to see that game. When Woly is your scoring threat, you’re screwed from the get go. DC came out a little flat, but within 10 minutes, they realized the team they were playing against would struggle in the USL.
They were playing triangles, maintaining possession for a large majority of the time. They were playing smart thru balls, and cutting off all forms of attack from NY.
It rained a lot in the first half, but Nicole and I were lucky enough to have our free VW parkas with us, and remained mostly dry. Bring on the offensive juggernaut of San Jose.
Player Ratings:
Wells 5, Martinez 8, Peralta 7, McTavish 6, Burch 6, Fred 7, Simms 7, Quaranta 7, Moreno 9, Dyachenko 5, Emilio 9
Subs: Mediate 5, Kirk 4, Stratford 4 (He missed a gimme)
What do you think?

Nice to see us getting back on track. With San Jose coming to town, we should be sitting at 19 points next week. I don’t want to under estimate the Quakes, but lets be real… Buddle scored a hat trick on them so we should be able to take care of business.

Niiiice. Good to see the upswing in full effect whilst I’m galavanting about the Eire.
So I’m staying right across the bay from Galway and I’m heading over there tomorrow to meet with a couple of team officials for Galway FC, from the Irish Premier League. I’m going to try to get them to partner with DC and get some Guinness flowing at RFK. Well, I said I’d try anyways.
Spent last night embroiled in a long conversation with an Irish guy who was convinced that MLS was ready to take over the states. While of course I liked his enthusiasm, I had to tell the truth and scale things back a bit. I gave him a 10 year timeline for repectability domestically and a 20 year timeline (barring a deep US WC run) for the same internationally. Was I downplaying things too much? Wouldn’t want to turn away all the potential DC diaspora.
Watched the Czech-Turkey game in a pub with a bunch of Brits. We were all in agreement that the Czechs got completely hosed. Rooting for Turkey to lose the quarter 10-0. I like Arda Turan, but that’s it. OK, 10-1 would suffice. Shame it was the Czech’s best player who got it all wrong in the end. The ‘cat is amongst the pidgeons’ today as Romania strive to knock out the two WC finalists. I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know – I just wanted an excuse to use the phrase. The vernacular I’m picking up from the constant and in depth coverage I’m getting is really quite fun.
Hope all is well stateside – I’m getting offline a little early today to save for trips into Galway and Dublin this week. While it is awesome over here I’m starting to really miss my United!!
Much Love!

I think your assessment of the the prospects of MLS were about right. But lie to them, it’s not like it’ll matter anyway.
LA Galaxy put a 35 million EURO bid for Ronaldinho. I’m serious. Insanity.
