Recap: RSL 4, DC United 0
By: jon | April 14th, 2008Wow. That was one would call a “dismantling”. As I said on the last JPEG thread, this game was mostly unwatchable from a DCU fan perspective.
Some observations that :
- The personnel was not on the field to play a 3-4-3. Nope. If Domenic Mediate is on the field, you’ve already lost. (Not really, but c’mon.) I understand you don’t want people to get hurt on that abomination of a “field”, but Gallardo and Martinez need to be out there. I also don’t want to see Burch in the midfield. He makes good runs as a LB, but staying in the middle is not his strongest point.
- The field. Sweet jesus. How would it not be better for them to play on a rec field in some public park? It looked like they were playing on green painted asphalt. The ball shot across the ground like they were on ice. A little hard to play in such conditions. RSL is a little more used to it.
- Kyle Beckerman looks like an idiot. But that second goal was a laser. Wow. He always seems to play well against us.
- Ben Olsen, get well soon.
- Too early to tell about Carvallo. The score sheet is ugly, but I don’t think many of those were his fault. Maybe the second one. I think he needs another start, with the A squad on the field, and on a real pitch.
- Soehn on the loss-
It was the first time we’ve had to rely on our depth, just because the amount of games we’ve had. We learned a lot. Just coming from a game like Wednesday (against Pachuca) and comparing it to today, it was two different teams.
News flash, Tom. We don’t have depth. I know this an MLS issue, as I’ve gotten into numerous times, but we just don’t have it.
That’s it. I think the tape of this game should be incinerated and forgotten. After all, we’ve got the Crew to punish on national television.

Yep, I had this T-Vo’d on FSC, but I saw the results before I started watching it. I deleted it without watching it. I’m just going to pretend it never happened.

Man, it’s strange to realize that Salt Lake - frickin’ REAL SALT LAKE - just dismantled a DC United team fresh from playing even-steven with red-hot Pachuca.
Two things:
1.) RSL isn’t going to be a steaming pile of dog crap this year. I’m wondering if Jason Kreis isn’t getting the hang of this - not that he had to be too crafty to pummel the sad 3-4-3 United put out there.
2.) Tommy Soehn is either extremely whimsical or just not sane. A 3-4-3 on the road, while resting a starting defender? On that asphalt?
I mean, I understand getting fellas some rest. So that’s why you play 4-5-1 with two d-mids. Man. Goal differential counts in this league, too.
I wouldn’t worry about it too much, though. I really do think United is on the cusp of being pretty special.
