Pre Game, Links of the Week, Access United and a Music Recommendation

By: jon | July 11th, 2008

Wooo. After a whole 3 days without a game, DC United is back in action in RFK against Chivas de Guadalajara. Let me say this, as an avid follower of the USMNT, having seen quite a few US v Mexico tussles, I can say that I’m not a big fan of Mexican football supporters. They’re probably all nice people, but I have seen some chikanery from these fans that I’m not a big fan of. Maybe the fans of Chivas are different?

Anyway, Superliga. The money tournament having no real basis on anything. Woo. Tickets? More expensive than league matches. Will I be there? Most likely, for the sole reason I can’t stand to watch games on Telemundo. I took three years of Spanish, but they fail me. Aye carumba.

The big questions abound. Will Jaime be ready for the game after his abdominal strain? What about Gallardo? How will the players bounce back after 120 minutes against the Fire on Tuesday? Will Peralta actually start a game? Will they play the same kind of attacking football they played in the beginning of the year in international play? (I hope so) These questions, and more, will all be answered Saturday night.
Now for some linkage.
THE USA today has a preview.
ESPN with their overall Superliga preview.
Bryan Namoff is on my favorite radio show ever, World Soccer Daily.
Ben Olsen details the moves that he has.
Fighting Talker has a two part preview on Superliga, here and here.
Here’s Access United for the Fire Open Cup game…

As for a music recommendation, go see the Brazilian Girls at 930 club after the game on Saturday, as I am doing. Buy tickets here. And below is a sample of the greatness they bring…

    1. That was delicious.

    2. Given our current medical state, I’m actually thankfull for the break in league play, even if I’m less than thrilled about SuperLiga as a whole (#1 for me - neutral site please). I want us as healthy as possible when we jump back in for the run approaching fall.

    3. I was surprised by the USA Today article’s half-decency. My one question in regard to it though, was this:

“With four MLS teams involved in SuperLiga play and [three others playing Thursday night], it’s a light weekend within the league (all times p.m. ET):”

How do three teams play in one night? Don’t you need an even number of teams? Or did one play a doubleheader? That’s not very fair. ;)

    4. I like Brazilian Girls a hell of a lot, have for many years. Especially their single “Pu**y”. What a great chorus THAT song has. Shame about the timing - I won’t be able to go. Throw one back for me, would you?

Thanks again for all your work. Usted está golpeando mucho asno con el pie, mi amigo.

    PS

    re: Blanco

Much like this Favre nonsense, I’m waiting for something concrete to come out of it before I start embarassing myself. Have no doubt however, about the strength of my feelings.

simms is not awful; he’s great. He had a really bad game against CD Guad, but he’s still great. You, on the other hand….

On the bright side (and it will probably go unnoticed by the many fans who’ve already made up their minds about a guy who has fewer than 40 career starts), I thought Wells had a pretty good game the other night.

Any predictions for tonight’s game against Atlante FC ? Dont know much about Atlante FC. I know that the odd for DC United is +105 and Atlante FC is +225.
