Game Preview: Chivas v DC United (Game 2)
By: jon | October 2nd, 2007After a 2-1 victory last week at RFK, DC United heads to Mexico (where no American team has ever won) and hopes to advance to face Arsenal in the next round. Chivas has the away goal, so DC has to score at least 2 (if I got this right) and win, to advance. If I’m wrong, correct me.
Ed. Note- WRONG.
If United wins, or the match is a draw, United will qualify to the quarterfinals. If Chivas wins 1-0, or by two or more goals, the Mexican club will advance. However, if Chivas wins by a goal, but United scores two or more goals, the MLS club will move on. If Chivas wins 2-1, the tie will be decided on penalty kicks. The winner will face Argentina’s Arsenal de Sarandi in the next round, who defeated Goias of Brazil 4-3 on aggregate.
Marc Burch, the man with golden….crossing ability, will be out for this game due to a red card in the home leg. This could cause problems, especially because of his role in an offense that has problems with service from the wings. In his place could be Namoff, who is nursing injury, but made the trip. However, I think the back line will be Vanney and Boswell in the middle, McTavish and Carroll on either side. Fred is also slightly hobbled, but I would imagine he’d try his best to play on this big stage.
My prediction: DC 2-1, with goals by Luciano Emilio and Clyde Simms (our new offensive weapon). Perkins will redeem himself for his previous Mexican adventure.
Tune in, and come back tomorrow and tell me how wrong I was.
Update: The wrongness has already started. It looks like Josh Gros will be filling in for Burch, that Namoff is healthy, and Fred won’t be playing. Good start, huh?
Also, in a pretty cool display, Chivas management announced that tickets to tonight’s game would be free. Think Kasper et al will make the same agreement if we make it through? Hah.

If Chivas wins 1-0 the away goal puts them through.
If Chivas wins by 2 or more aggregate puts them through.
If Chivas wins 2-1 we go to extra time.
If Chivas wins by any other 1 goal margin DC will have to have scored 2 or more away goals and they’ll be through.
If the game is a tie DC is through on aggregate.
If DC wins DC is through.Posted from
