Game Preview #1: DC United at KC Wizards

By: jon | March 28th, 2008

That’s right ladies and gentlemen. The MLS season officially starts a little more than 24 hours from now, and boy am I pumped. In fact, I’ve been invited to a MLS party, where much beer will be consumed, lots of dead animals will also be consumed, and we will watch more than our fill of MLS ACTION!

Gallardo

But anyway.

Here are some linkages:

MLSnet’s official preview.

A general preview from Goal.com

- If you recall, and I certainly do, the 2007 season began against KC at home in the pouring rain. We lost 4-2, made Eddie Johnson look like Theirry Henry (he isn’t), and were acting as if we were on a giant green slip and slide. I watched that game in a bar called Schooner’s under my dorm in college, and I’ve gotta say, no one else there was watching. But whatever.

- If you thought RFK wasn’t fit for soccer, look where we’re playing.

Predictions: Jaime will not be playing, so we’ll have Luci and Niell up top again, and the rest should be about the same. I think Tino comes off the bench, and makes an impact, setting up a goal. I think the final score will be DC 3 - KC 1, with a goal by Luci, another goal by McTavish, and goal from Fred.

What do you think?

Actually the 2007 season started in the snow at Colorado, with the DC defence making it look like Herc Gomez might actually be the answer for Colorado. KC was the home opener. Last year started pretty poor.

I stand corrected. We started on a six game winless streak, no?

I didn’t see the KC game last year. Jeez. We made Eddie Johnson look like THIERRY HENRY????

Oh my goodness. We must have been *horrible*. You an Henry fan, by the way? Just curious. I mean, I am of course, being a Barcelonista…just curious…

Anyway about DC, I think Tino definitely will make an impact. But McTavish’s time in the spotlight is over, I think. I mean he’s been in a glory streak, you know? And Devon’s just not that type. He’s quietly fabulous. I’m not sure it’s going to continue.

I’m a little worried about Niell being all C. Ronaldo diving-ish which would kill me because he might take advantage of the GINORMITY of the defenders (well compared to him). However I’m looking for him to steal some balls out of the air (sounds impossible for ‘the gnome’? well it’s not–it’s his specialty in practice, apparently) and get a goal this weekend. You’re dead-on about Luci and Fred, though…

Artful dives are part of the ancient legent of Erp-Fu. Niell’s Erp-Fu seems to be very, very strong. I like him.

By the way, Jon, it was a 4-game winless skid last year.

I dont know guys but I think gallardo is not going to make a better different for the performent of the team, he looks very slow and is not leading the team like he is suppose to be.
