Now, there is one final battlemodo to go on here. The choice is between James Thorpe and Nic Platter. The team has to decide if they think Thorpe is worth a senior roster spot (maybe), or if they’d rather go with Platter. The team appears destined to carry three keepers because of their uncertainty with Crayton’s contract situation. This team does not look like an MLS champion, but I would have said the same about Columbus last year.

  Good mix of tested talent and fresh blood. The season depends on the former staying healthy and the latter stepping up. Especially the latter.

  I like the addition of size and speed in the younger set, but until we see a few games, it’s hard to predict how things will shake out. Could be we’re pulling for the underdog, which is a lot better than watching the favorites crumble.

  From what I’ve heard (pre-season optimism, granted), the chemistry and locker-room dynamics are much better this year, which is also great to hear.

  My prediction: we show much better than most predictions.

  (2nd prediction: we show better than Houston, who’s unfortunately in for a fall this year.)
