Yinkamania is Dead
By: Max J. | July 2nd, 2007Kasali Yinka Casal, we hardly knew ye. The official word is in and Casal is no longer a DC player. Goff’s reporting today makes it pretty clear that he was leaving something to be desired in practice, especially for a senior international, so that takes a little of the sting out it. If he wasn’t producing, fine.
As the DCenters point out, though, it’s pretty clear that the front office is gearing up for a run at the MLS Cup while it’s in our backyard. That’s not a direction I like, but for the opposite reason that D gives. I’ll gladly sacrifice this year at RFK to build a solid core that wins three or four cups in the coming years; winning the damn things counts way more than where you win them. Salary doesn’t concern me that much (does anyone really think we’re paying Vanney’s cap number next year?), but Vanney’s age and the probable old-but-reliable player to be announced start to make you worry about the depth of long-term planning and health of an older team.
