Who is even on this team anymore?
By: jon | February 19th, 2008With all of the wheeling and dealing, along with the Draft and non-roster invitees chilling with the Black and Red, I think we need to clarify who is on the team. So, the Goffster’s gon’ break it down.
Ben Olsen (ankles) and Jeff Carroll (toe) remain sidelined by injuries. Gonzalo Peralta will return from personal leave in Argentina on Thursday. Rookies James Thorpe and Tony Schmitz have returned to school to graduate. Quavas Kirk has joined the squad following Friday’s trade with the Galaxy and former L.A. midfielder Josh Gardner has started his tryout. Veterans Jamil Walker and Justin Moose continue to pursue DCU contracts. Draftees Brandon Owens and Dan Stratford, as well as free agents Grady Renfrow and Pat Carroll, are with the club. Trialist Ardalan Attar is apparently gone.
Also some newbies to camp…
New to camp for tryouts: Maryland defender Spencer Allen, Virginia midfielder Dane Murphy and Denver goalkeeper Matt Bredehoft (DCU assistant Chad Ashton is the former Denver coach).

18 senior roster players; 10 developmental players. Senior roster count toward the cap and have a minimum salary of 30kish. Dev roster players don’t count towards the cap and make either a Gen Ad salary or the 12k or 17k salaries that bug your eyes out in the annual salary list. You also cannot have a player over 25 on the dev list. United has, I believe, on the roster:

Looking at it we are going to sign Dan Stratford and I completely forgot about Jerson Monteiro who we traded for from the fire late last year (he was their first rounder; they let us have him for a 3rd rounder); both developmental. So 4 dev spots and 2 senior spots open.
