Well, that sucked.
By: jon | October 3rd, 2007Since I couldn’t stay up till 2 to watch the game, I followed the suck on Soccer Insider, and was crushed slowly and thoroughly. So, I didn’t actually see anything. So, maybe you all should go here, or here. When a game is in my time zone, and on television, I’ll be of more help to you all.
What I do know is that this team now only has the MLS Cup and Supporter’s Shield ahead of them. And you know what? I think they’ll have them both.

I was embarrassed as an American to watch that pathetic display. I am not a D.C. United fan, but was cheering them on. Why do we not attack teams. They beat Chivas 2-1 at home, are American coaches so insecure that they cannot draw up a game plan to attack a team that has a new flippin coach and all the pressure in their country. We are never going to be respected if we don’t fight. Mexicans and other SudAmercian teams know we can’t win in their stadium because we lack “ganas” and we are what the fans called Perkins everytime he sent a goal kick.
Pathetic, absolutely pathetic.Posted from

The only thing pathetic was the first touch and technique of the DC United players. We’ll never know if the tactics were correct or not; the players couldn’t hold on to the ball long enough to test the theory.
There are no teams in MLS that have the consistency of touch and control of the better Mex teams. In MLS, the giveaways are not as punishing, as the other side will likely give it back shortly. That’s where the league is.
Superior first touch and control does not equal winning, however. For all the possession last night, Chivas were fortunate to score when they did, and never created that many real scoring chances.

First touches were horrible but so is sending the ball down the field constantly to corners of the field only to have Chivas turn right around and start back up the field. The players were not comfortable with the strategy; you could tell this because after the goal when offensive players were subbed in the movement of the ball somewhat improved.

Everyone blows up when we don’t do well against Mexican teams.
This is one result. We outplayed them in DC, and it is always, always hard to travel in an away game. Especially when you have the kind of distance to travel to get to the other teams stadium.
MLS did really well in the superliga, 3 out of 4 semi-finalists is amazing. Before you say “well a Mexican club won” remember the champions league were 3 out of 4 semi-finalists were from the EPL. Nobody is down on the Premiership now because Milan took the cake!
Chivas has so many more resources than DC is is amazing that we play them so closely. As depth grows in the MLS you’ll see teams able to coup with mid-week encounters much better. It is only a matter of time before we dominate the Mexican league, and they know that to.
