Tonight, the Role of Curt Schilling Will Be Played By Bobby Boswell
By: Max J. | June 25th, 2007I’m not going to single out Boz for a bad performance in a night without any good ones, uut the growing “What is happening to Bobby Boswell?” chorus does deserve some answers. There is an uncomfortable element, it seems, of complacency in Bobby’s game this year. Before it’s mentioned, I really don’t think infrequent updates on a blog are cutting into his practice time. But Boz also knows he’s become a cult figure/fan favorite in DC, and it seems to have taken the edge off of his efforts. There is work, but not none of the unproven-young-guy hunger. Did anyone else think he was remarkably calm about being sent off against New York, of all teams, with the fans at fever pitch and a major streak on the line?
Minor celebrity is OK, and so is the urge to run your mouth a la Schilling. Schilling, though, maintains his same fanatical competitive edge even while he churns out interminable blog posts. Bobby seems to be settling into a sort of self-assured coast, exactly the dull attitude that got United in trouble in Salt Lake. It’s going to make July a very rough month if it’s not fixed, and I can only hope a roughing up at the Copa helps Bobby’s headspace.
