Should He Stay, Or Should He Go Now? – Guy Roland Kpene Edition
By: jon | October 4th, 2007I’m going to be doing this a lot, specifically when there’s no DC news to report. Basically, this is an open post to see what people think about certain players, and if they should have a United jersey on next season.
First up, Guy Roland Kpene.

My take: First game I saw him, I was very impressed. Was it the Baby Drogba haircut? Maybe. Was it the dribbling and attacking impetus that was lacking on the wings at that time *Before Fred found himself*? Yes. But after his naaaasty assist in his first start to Emilio, what has he accomplished?
He is undersized, and often tries to play with his back to goal. That doesn’t work well for him. He has speed, and can draw a lot of fouls, but I need more from a forward.
I say, he has the rest of this season to prove himself, whether that is as a late sub, or in reserve games. I understand the difficulty of developing depth on an MLS roster, but if you want to compete abroad (as we want to), we need a scoring threat off the bench.
What do you all think?

Hopefully he will be fighting with Walker fourth striker spot before United only uses development players. I say hopefully, because United needs to bring in another striker either as a super sub/part time starter for Jaime. Thinking hopefully, Monterio might take the fourth spot as well, but will be kept at a development contract, leaving a spot open for Kepene or Walker.

If we have someone better, he goes. If he’s the best available, he stays. I like what I have seen, except for the finishing so far. The question is, will his touch around goal change soon? If it doesn’t, then he’s just another Ali Curtis….

Keep him. He’s young, has great skill and just needs help learning how to finish. With Emilio schooling him he will be dangerous in a year or so. He can shake defenders like few players his age.
