Rain, Rain, Don’t Go Away
By: jon | July 23rd, 2008So, I am doing a special guest DCU offside blog posting as I am a good friend of Jon. Not to waste your time with lengthy introductions, but there is a new sheriff in town (for at least today).
I am heading out to the RFK statium tonight to watch our home town heroes go up against defending MLS champions, Houston Dynamo. Now, to me, the championship status of Houston is merely a side note to the most important aspect of tonight… The return of former MLS defender of the year (and wannabe internet sensation ) Bob Boswell.
It is shocking that this one time fringe USMNT player is still playing professionally after his season last year. Boswell is slow to a fault, but more disturbing is his seeming inability to read the game. There are a slew of top class center backs that are not blessed with great speed, but all of them make up for this fact with the ability to either be physically imposing or have a great ability to read the game. Mr. Boswell has neither of these saving graces which make him a constant liability at the back.
Now, I do realize that he is supposed to be improving with the Houston based outfit and perhaps the magical power of orange is making him a better player… I just don’t buy this. I think that the Houston system and the help of Ricardo Clark as his DCM have really covered Boswell’s innate flaws.
DCU, with Mr. Soehn at the helm, should be in a better position than any to know how to exploit “is internet” Boswell ( + USMNT full timer (why?) Ricardo Clark is suspended). Am I being harsh and completely biased?… yes, but this is a blog and a special posting at that.
My predictions: “what’s the dealio” Emilio on the board first, Wells own goal, followed by an 80th minute winner by “hot” Rod Dyachenko in a downpour. 3 goals for DCU and a win by a 2-1 score line in a storm in the nation’s Capitol. I just wish the day would end more quickly!

I have to say, nothing was funnier this evening than turning to my Direct Kick channel and seeing “weather delay” at the bottom of the screen.

This game was cursed. I’m glad it’s over.
Leaving for Austria/Germany tomorrow for 10 days. Be back on the 4th. Will check in when I can.
I’m so glad I sold my ticket for tonight. I had too much to do to get ready for said trip, but it worked out for the best (for me).
Have a great week Jon.
(and thanks to whomever filled in tonight)VAMOS!!

I can’t believe how much trouble it has been to get this game played. I’m glad I stopped trying to go see it. What a shame it ended in a loss. I found a couple of vidoes talking about D.C.’s losing streak. Check it out:

Two different trips, two different reasons. One pleasure, one business. This is the business end. I must say, this trip marks the first time I have ever been in a club and heard the themesong to Baywatch (I’ll Be There), followed by Whoomp There it Is, followed by a techno remix of Neil Diamond. Honest to God, I couldn’t make this sh-t up. On the bright side, they drink a lot here, so maybe the DJ was born with fetal alcohol syndrome, which would explain the trip back to 19fu-kin’ never happened. The beer is good, the Cubans are good, and I think I might be able to get my bartender at the hotel to come up to my room in exchange for a bottle of Tylonol (it’s still pretty tough here in the former East). Hope you all are well. Now I’m off to watch reruns of Night Rider in German. Be back on the 4th.
Much Love
