IT’S IN DA NET!!
By: jon | November 20th, 2007Luciano’s following Bobby’s lead, and has made a website. One can only hope that he’ll post videos of himself every week, so I can get my fill of “Ahh Perkins” and “ITS IN DA NET!!” and “BOB BOSWELL IS INTERNET”. Priceless.
You know how I said I was going to write my recap of the Cup? I’m not going to.
Why? Because it’s been done to death. Some funny things of note…
-I had tickets that did not exist. Row 19 in section 508 is either invisible, or it doesn’t exist. After fighting with numerous senile or toothless individuals, I got compensated, and found myself in the VIP section. Very nice.
-Jimmy Eat World was ok, but I’m sure someone told them they had to play “The Middle”, and then they probably said some swear words.
-Khano Smith is cool. I like his fire, although I heard he’s a bit of an ass. Not sure if it was on TV, but when Ngwenya was taking his sweet time getting off the pitch, Smith was pushing him out of bounds. Good stuff.
-I can’t wait for next season, hopefully living in or around DC, and making nearly every home game.
The Expansion draft is in a few days, and the protected list is all over the place on the Offside. I know for a fact that Melissa has it over at San Jose Offside.
Some things of note, we protected Boswell, and not Vanney. We didn’t protect any of our forwards other than Emilio and Moreno (fine with me). I’m hoping we finalize a deal with Gomez, sign Veron, sign a pair of strong bench strikers, and maybe draft some depth in D.

I’m guessing your Emilio got his raise and used the money to hire a web design team.
Who is your pick to go?

I’m thinking either Carroll or Dyachenko. Both have shown flashes, but I imagine they’re pretty replaceable. Who do you want?

DC is another team I’m completely clueless on when looking at the unexposed list so I honestly don’t know.

Since DC is actually my team I’ll go through the list one by one. In the end I think you’ll take Brian Carroll though.
D.C. United
Addlery, Nicholas -Played some games and scored some goals but also looked ineffective at times. Unlikely pick.Carroll, Brian -Was a regular starter all through the Nowak 3-5-2 era and was a key cog for that formation. He might be one of the few non-goal keepers to have played every minute of a season. Makes small 6 figures but was forced to the bench by mediocre play in a 4-4-2 and the steller play of Clyde Simms. Probable pick.
Carroll, Jeff- We liked Brian Carroll so much we would pay his little brother to practice with the team. Also, I think I was sitting behind him at one game and whenever the ref would make a bad call he’d yell out ‘erroneous’. It was hilarious. Pass.
Crowe, Shawn- Third string goal keeper having off season knee surgery. Pass on him.
Deroux, Stephen- Fast player who likes to try the dribble but seems not to have a great deal of tactical sophistication. Pass on him.
Dyachenko, Rod- Gifted player who hasn’t yet broken through the midfield. Best position was subbing Gomez and did assist on the two goals vs Chicago in the almost come back. Was drafted by Toronto but we got him back. Still dev player after 2 years in league. Possible pick.
Gros, Joshua- A very hard working tireless winger who would fight for the team to the end and had some skill (except maybe on crosses). He is still a fan favorite. Unfortunately he has been benched much of the season due to concussions and after consulting a number of specialists is likely to retire due to the frequency that simply heading the ball was giving them to him. Pass.
Kpene, Guy- First year forward who is speedy has a decent touch and when healthy was not bad at finding other players. Too bad his finishing couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn. Unlikely pick.
Mediate, Domenic- Versatile player who is a good sub but has limited skill. Usually plays wide. Unlikely pick.
Monteiro, Jerson- 1st rd draft pick last year for Chicago who was traded for some sort of something when Osorio wasn’t high on him. Still a project. Very Unlikely pick.
Moose, Justin- Midfielder who has been in the reserves two years and still on dev contract. Unsire if he will ever make it. Very Unlikely pick.
Mupier, Mira- Never saw 1st team action. Pass.
Nolly, Jay (GK)- Second string GK who was the RSL starter part of last year. Started one game for DC this year- the loss at Salt Lake. Pass.
North, Brad- Never played for 1st team. Pass.
Vanney, Greg-Experienced defender who can play centrally and on the left. Older and losing a few steps but a decent organiser. Is out of contract so you would need to negotiate. His old was 200 something k. Possible Pick.
Walker, Jamil- Former San Jose speedster who sometimes could make an impact on the game. Was frequently more successful in non-league (US open cup, Concacaf Champions Cup, Copa Sudamericana) games than league games. Very frustrating. Has been out most of the season with torn achilles. Unlikely Pick.

bluemeanie,
good synopsis. You forgot to mention Rod’s awesome stepover skills.
I think the entire DC Blogosphere is agreement that it’ll be B.Carroll.
I also love your sideline reporting of J Carroll’s ref correcting.Posted from
