Five Great Things About the All-Star Game

By: Max J. | July 19th, 2007
  1. The Matt Reis Comedy Hour. The YouTube clip has to be coming, and you should see it.
  2. Watching Celtic players attempt (and fail) to grasp the NFL-style video intro. If you didn’t think three seconds of air time was enough time to go through the full wanting-to-bolt-for-the-nearest-open-window routine, please contact Paul Hartley immediately.
  3. The smarmy fat guy exercising his man-crush on Beckham every single time the camera panned to the luxury box.
  4. I honestly didn’t know the stage at the Richard existed. Which is about what you could say for the band that played there at halftime. And for the response they got.
  5. Kevin Hartman’s inevitable dangerous howler.

Then again, Christian took a short corner, and that was pretty much the end of my positive viewing experience.

Unfortunately the actual match was garbage.

I disagree. Anytime we send Eurosnobs whining away with “It’s just a friendly”-style excuses, God smiles.

@Brian: Not all bad, the goals were very nice. As was Boruc’s PK save, which I was hoping for after EJ flopped. And I get to see soccer on TV about as often as Salt Lake gets a win, so I’m not going to complain too me.

@Badgerjohn: More sour grapes from Strachan would have been nice.

I totally agree with #2 - mostly, I just liked hearing the Scots say “Glasgow, Scotland”, “Edinburgh, Scotland”, Scotland, Scotland, Scotland.

By #5, do you mean the bombs he fired off in every direction, or the actual howling he did from the goalbox? I’m glad a microphone was near enough to broadcast every “WIIIIIIIIIIDE” in that second half.

What is with DC and taking corners short? Even when he was the only DC player on the field Gomez took the corner short.
