Congrats to Slavia Prague
By: jon | May 21st, 2008For winning the Czech Extraliga. I was over there. Did I miss anything with DC United? Any horrible losses? Oh yeah. Two.
I’m watching the Chivas game on Tivo as we speak, and it is disappointing. But nothing is new from the last game. No heart, not winning 50-50 balls, and only one or two players giving 90 minute efforts.
Which brings to my point…does anyone want to co-author this blog? I feel I’ve neglected a lot of posting duties, and even though this team sucks, I don’t want this blog to. So let me know. And also, feel free to vent in the comments about how bad we are, how soon Soehn needs to go, and WTF is wrong with Emilio.

Although United lost last night, their performance was a lot better. Gallardo played pretty well, Fred was great. Tino was good as well. McTavish and Wells, combined to lose us the game.
Although I have questioned many of Tommy’s subs, like subbing out Fred and putting in Burch, I’m not completely calling for his head yet. There was improvement. We should have come away with at least a tie.
I think/hope that Carvallo gets the start at home on Saturday.

Hey! I’m Czech! Wish I coulda been there with you – hope it was fun.
Yeah, it looks like trouble for the long haul this year. I can appreciate the ambition of the front office, but the results this time around appear to be a total failure. Usually I don’t very much like comparisons to other sports, but it’s fitting here. Have we seen this before? Yes, with the Redskins. Always a 1 seed in March and an also ran by the time the season rolls around, feverishly humping the memory of long ago conquests. I never thought Kevin Payne would take a page from Dan Snyder.
What to do? There are so many problems to fix.
Emilio. Trade him. Yeah, I said it. He has plenty of value on the market and we could get something of real value right now. Probably at a lower salary too. He has gotten lazy. You can see it if you read between the lines of his quotes to the media. He’s still claiming that the big problem is not being used to each other. That fit for the early going, but we’re 1/3 into the season, and counting the CCC and preseason, the players have had months together at this point. The benching was a nice idea, but it didn’t work. Afterwards, even though Soehn had said United needed to look at other options at Forward he was clinging to a quad strain as the real reason behind it. Really? Not that you showed up fat and slow? Not that the passion you exhibited last year is completely gone? He’s acting like a 15 year old, shifting blame. I vote that he does it somewhere else. Thanks for 2007, but it’s 2008 now. Different year buddy.
I’d try to get someone who plays his guts out and can get you 10-12 goals a year, like I believe we could get out of Robbie Rogers. He’d help with our flank play, lower our team’s age, and cost us a hell of a lot less. Then we could use the extra money (along with the money from flat out cutting Niell) to go get a replacement for our newest assistant coach, Jaime Moreno. I figure trading Emilio for Rogers, cutting Niell, and retiring Moreno would net us lots and lots of money. Throw in a potential Ben Olsen retirement and the dollars go even higher. We could easily fit two fine forwards into the equation, have Rogers and Fred on the wings, Gallardo in the middle, and possess a decent attack.
Of course, United just signed Emilio to a DP deal, making it even harder to trade him, and indicating that they have a lot more patience than I do. Maybe it’s an unrealistic solution, but it’s what pops into this frustrated fan’s head at this particular moment.
I DO agree with Payne on at least one thing though. You don’t fire the coach unless you have a specific guy in mind to replace him. We are not FC Dallas, thank god. So if you’re thinking that Soehn must go, then tell me who you’re going to replace him with. Not Arena. Not Harkes. Williams? Maybe, but do you really want a first time head coach? I’m in the “no” camp on that one. I have a lot more patience with coaches than players. Always have. I also hate firing a coach midseason, so he stays – for now. He’s not eating at my dinner table though.
