A whirlwhind of Sucking

By: jon | September 26th, 2008

Hear that sucking sound? It’s DC United’s season ending with one trophy, the Open Cup.

It’s not impossible that they win MLS Cup, but it would be a sports miracle if it did. And I don’t count on miracles.

Since I’ve last written, we have lost to Saprissa at home, in an embarrassing display, been blown out by LA Galaxy, who had not won a game in the previous three months, and then earlier this week, lost to Marathon 2-0. Performances by Louis Crayton were wasted in the last two of these games, and the defense looked amateurish. For good reason, since our back line is either injured, coming back from injury, or not of the talent level necessary to compete at the international level.

It’s just sad is what it is. All of the injuries have robbed this team of its potential that it showed in June. Next season needs to be on the mind of the Front Office, and perhaps a shake up there and on the sidelines is what’s necessary to have some success moving forward. I’m aware that we won the Supporter’s Shield last year, but in the offseason, Payne and Soehn blew the team up and started pretty fresh, and the results were poor. Change is coming, DC United.

There is a hard road to hoe coming up. They have 5 regular season games remaining, more Champions League matches to lose, and injuries have yet to stop. Let’s hope for a miracle in the next month, but at the same time, let’s also be prepared to watch the playoffs be void of the Black and Red.

To borrow a couple of phrases…

Sack up bitches. What are you, Chivas USA fans?

Over? Did you say, over? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

Not that I condone fascism, or any -ism for that matter. -Ism’s in my opinion are not good. A person should not believe in an -ism, he should believe in himself. I quote John Lennon, “I don’t believe in [the playoffs], I just believe in me.” Good point there. After all, he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. I’d still have to bum rides off people.

Well, all I’m saying is that I want to look back and say that I did I the best I could while I was stuck in this place. Had as much fun as I could while I was stuck in this place. Played as hard as I could while I was stuck in this place… Dogged as many girls as I could while I was stuck in this place.

    ABRACADABRA, B!

Just when I thought you couldn’t get any dumber, you go and do something like this… and totally redeem yourself!

…just trying to cheer you guys up…

i love me some ferris bueller…but even he doesn’t stack up to our spectre. :)

actually, I’m optimistic about Cruz Azul tomorrow. but mostly I’m just so glad I’m not a Beckhamista like my friends are. LOL

that was an embarrassment to DCU and frankly they, right now, dont deserve their fans. tino, i think, is the only one who does right now. everyone else, jeez. i’m done with you. i’ll stick around DCU of course, but i expect better than that. that was revolting.

come on guys. get a grip. we used to be kings of this league. you’re going to let the likes of chivas beat you?

How many times have we agonized over a nonstop high-flying season with an early round exit in the playoffs to some team that wasn’t even “hot”?

It doesn’t matter how we get in, only that we do.

Is there any reason to expect it? No, I’m not saying that. I can be a realist. I’m just saying that with 5 or 6 points we can still do it, and I’ve seen plenty of ugly wins in my time.

“Fight on my men.” Sir Andrew said
    “A little I’m hurt but not yet slain;
I’ll just lie down and bleed for awhile,
and then I’ll rise and fight again.”

so far, I vote Spectre this season’s MVP…but you are right, we can still do it.

mostly I just want us (and by “us” I mean, “our reserves”) to salvage some pride vs. Saprissa. I don’t care if it’s a 4-1 loss as opposed to a 4-0. All I want is some goals, some points maybe, and oh–maybe some fun? hmm…

:) I keep a smile on my face anyway. I still love those black and red, even when we suck.

Yeah, king louis looked good tonight. Now we just need to win our last 2. New England is the harder of the 2. I just see Columbus resting some guys in the last game.

It ain’t gonna be easy, seeing as how it feels like some of the team have already started prepping for the offseason.

At this point, I’m kinda wondering what would be the reaction if we did it. Would Soehn be like, “What? You mean we’re in?!? Well who the heck are we playing? Get me Fred on the phone, quick!”

lol. That, or perhaps a cartwheel and “yippee! I might not get fired!” followed by Fred’s miraculous recovery…

(only in my world of ridiculous optimism, though)

the best thing to happen here would be to not make it. it sends a message that this year was a flop, and if we make it in those things can be glossed over.

    and i’m not dead.

I see your point jon, but as a devout dreamer I’d rather make it in and have a chance at the 5th star. A prohibitively small chance, granted, but a chance nonetheless.

    YAY! HE’S ALIVE!

I see your point too Jon, actually. Frankly, I’m indifferent at this point. Success I love, but improvement I desire, and both won’t go hand-in-hand.

Perhaps failure would aid us at this point…but man, I look at the Barra, etc. and those sick crazy flags and I think, we deserve just a tiny bit more glory…c’mon, for the sake of the black and red…

And yet, we don’t really deserve a bit more glory. We need to change, and a playoff spot might not help in that regard.

    Hmph. I dunno.

    One thing i thought of…

As long as we don’t win the Cup, the year is a flop. As far as I know, that’s the way Kevin Payne sees it.

I mean, he cleaned house after we went 16-6-6 last year. Somehow I don’t think us going 12-14-4 and sneaking in on the last day will suddenly be considered a success, injuries or no injuries.

As far as flops go, we either win the Cup…or we don’t. That seems to be the only measuring stick in this organization.

    (Thank God)
