A Weekend to Forget (Updated)
By: jon | July 27th, 2009So, for the first time all year, I missed a United game. I was in NY on Saturday in a place without the wonderful FSC, so I was stranded. I checked the score before bed on Saturday night on my phone, and saw us with a 2-0 lead, and I felt content with the certain three points and drifted off to sleep on an air mattress.
But lo, this team disappointed on an epic scale. I haven’t watched the DVR, and I won’t. When Soehn says that the team played the worst half ever, I’ll just avoid it, thank you very much. And there was the whole matter of the USA’s F team getting obliterated by Mexico. Utterly deflating.
But, we have a game on the near horizon (tomorrow) that I’ve been looking forward to for months, believe it or not. I am a HUGE fan of the CONCACAF Champions League, and as a fan, I demand better results than last year. Tomorrow night, United takes on LA Firpo, who are apparently not too shabby a side. Quaranta should be back and should feature for United, along with maybe Szetela and maybe Ely Allen as a sub. I hope Soehn takes the game seriously, and tries to kill off the tie by bagging a 3 goal lead for the away leg. I’ll update this post with any news about this match.
UPDATE: Behind The Badge’s handy Champions League primer.
