HOLY CRAP! Cannon to DCU??-Updated-TWICE
By: jon | December 11th, 2007Goff is saying the deal could be done, or just in talks.
I don’t really have anything to say at this point. Cannon is an amazing keeper, and I’ve seen him stand on his head in numerous games. Perkins is pretty steady, if not prone to an occasional mental lapse, or a second delay getting off his line. If Perkins goes to LA, I may have more affinity for that squad…
Cannon is supposed to make $200k next season, which seems like a weird move to make for a team so close to the salary cap. To me, that means Gomez is gone. In fact, Goff already reported that he could be in trade talks with another MLS team who is willing to offer him the additional year that he wants. In a perfect world, we keep him and get Veron, but with the potentially addition of Cannon and the otherwise tight salary situation, I’d say Gomito is adios.
Update: We might be after this guy too, according to Goff on his comments.
What do you all think of this potential move?
Double Update: Apparently Ruiz is on the move to LA possibly, and the reason this all happened is because DC got a formal offer from a Scadinavian team for Perkins. Gofferino.
UPDATE NUMBER DOS: So, I’m just gonna quote the Goffster here….
Now I am hearing that Boswell is on his way out of D.C., perhaps to Houston, which might mean one of the Dynamo goalkeepers is heading this way instead of Cannon.
Complications with Ruiz going to L.A. and joining high-priced Beckham and Donovan might have killed the original deal…..
UPDATED: I am told that the original deal was Boswell and cash to Dallas, Ruiz from Dallas to L.A., and Cannon from L.A. to D.C. The league would not allow it because Beckham is a designated player and both Ruiz and Donovan are grandfathered DPs.
And THEN
*…..the club pursuing Perkins is apparently from Norway.
*…..Boswell has been told by club officials that his name has been discussed in trade talks, according to Boz.
*…..MLS did not necessarily void the Cannon-Ruiz-Boswell deal. Some folks I have talked to say that is precisely what happened, but others say the league would have no problem with L.A. having a DP and two grandfathered DPs. Hmmm…..
I’m going out of town for a funeral. So please feel to discuss on here, and keep checking Goff for updates.

Thanks for finding this. Just linked to you as my source.
Cannon in my mind was MVP for the Galaxy this year. Not that he had much competition. If not for him, our record woulda been a WHOLE lot worse. If we’re dumping him, it’s only because of money. Or maybe he wants to go. That wouldn’t surprise me either.
We’d better get something good in exchange for him, though.

Perkins is not so bad. And he’s a mortgage broker so he can help the other guys through the housing crunch. Seems thats worth one Cannon, right?

I’m thinking that it would be a salary dump for you guys, maybe taking Boswell or Dyachenko off our hands, freeing you up to bring in the Polish striker you’ve been linked to. Perkins is rumored to go to Europe potentially, and in that case, we’d get allocation money. We need that money right now pretty bad, almost as much as LA does.
