Post Game- Colorado 0, DC United 3
By: jon | August 24th, 2008I have got to get out of this habit of only posting post game reports…
I was there last night, and I was fairly pleased. I say fairly because there were some stupid passes in the midfield, and some questionable play by certain players (I’m looking your way Emilio), and because we SHOULD get three points against anyone in the Western Conference. Rubbish. Anyway…
The first half saw only one late goal by Joe Vide, his first of his career. Scored off of a nice volley, which could have been a GOTW nominee if not for a later strike by Santino. An opportunistic finish by Quevas Kirk less than a minute after he came on finished the scoring.
Louis Crayton was solid if not spectacular. He made the few saves he needed to, was aggressive off of his line, took down crosses, and generally hustled and marshalled the backline. I appreciate that, particularly as its such a departure from previous goalkeeping this season.
Another observation came after the game. Ben Olsen, who was on the sub bench for some reason, “ran” over to hug Facundo Erpen. I say “run”, but I could have also said hobbled, galloped, or old-man-with-arthritis-movement. It didn’t look good, and I would be shocked if he’s game fit this season at all. At this point, as has been said by other bloggers, I’d rather see those that are hurt wait as long as they need and be recovered for the playoffs, or failing that, Champions League.
All in all, a good result. Players were fighting for the ball, and almost all of them were succeeding in winning it. Emilio had two assists, and when Goff told him that, he replied “I’m a number 10″. That’s a funny answer, and I give him credit for his humor, but he wasn’t much of an offensive threat, and he hasn’t been for about 3 weeks. Santino must not be giving him the service he wants. Below are some pics from the game. Leave your thoughts about the final result in the comments.

Is it fair to either to call Tino “Olsen Jr.”? His position on the field, his heartful play, his toughness - all timely performances given Ben’s injury. Combine that with the stamina of one Josh Gros and you have a young (hard to believe that’s still true) up and comer whom United can pair with Fred on the outside.
I’m imagining us at full strength. Visualizing it will make it come true, right? Suddenly we actually have depth. Moreno and Emilio up top, Fred and Ben on the wings, Muneca and Simms in the middle, Martinez and Peralta flanked by Burch and Namoff, with Tino and Vide coming off the bench. That’s actually a pretty gnarly lineup. Tino could come in on the wing or up top, Mr. Versatile. Would that we get to full strength in time for the CCL. Where’s Tinkerbell?

Tino is my new favorite person on the planet.
I didn’t see the game or really even hear much about it, so, shockingly, I have no opinion. I still love Emilio but he needs to improve vastly. 2 for 3 for Crayton–oh, I like that.

jon, I am not a DC United fan, but ever since Joe Vide was the first (now ex) Quake ever to friend me on Facebook, I will always be a Joe Vide fan. And I believe his goal WAS nominated for goal of the week (at least according to the Original Winger). So, if this is all true, I shall be voting for him and voting often. And all y’all should be too!
