DCU v Harbor View Post Game Discussion Thread (1-1)
By: jon | March 12th, 2008Well folks, 1-1. We got an away goal (WOO MCTAVISH) on a HORRIBLE pitch (from what I could see) and we did so sans the ALL TIME LEADING GOAL SCORER IN MLS as Christian Miles stated continuously. I didn’t watch the game live as I was in some siiiiiiick seats at the Verizon Center, watching my boy OV carry the Caps to victory. Imagine my surprise when I fired up the wayback machine (DVR) to see an EPL game on.
WAHHH WAHHHH.
I’m watching it now, but I peaked at the final score so I can go to sleep. Since you all actually saw the game, any one care to share their thoughts?
Also, my Q and A is over on the main page, so go check that out. And here are my pics from tonights Caps game.
Update: This guy encapsulated my views on last night’s game plan…
No broad generalizations on the fate of the season from a first disorganized 90 minutes of determined refusal to build through the middle, but if Soehn’s great brainstorm with all his new talent is to play every ball over the top like some relegation threatened Wearside team, jeebus fuck, he could have done that with last year’s talent. You spend the designated player spot on a ball-distributing ten and craft a strategy of running the offense over him?

First off, lets go Islanders!
Second – bad game Jon. DCU looked deflated out there.
Third – GET ON YOUR XBOX! =) Im putting up some results for the first day.

just for the record away goals don’t count extra in this crazy CONCACAF tourney, but we were lucky to come away with a tie and hopefully can take care of business next week at estadio RFK

Caught very little of the game. How did my guy “Muñeco” Gallardo do?

Here is what I saw last night.
-Harbor View completely outplaying us. Then again, they are used to the horrid pitch, they have been playing together for years, and they all speak the same language.
-Zach Wells rockin’ the goal and dousing Jose Carvallo’s hope of a starting spot (probably, anyway).
-Gallardo having the occasional spark of flair but mostly just subtly creating, just like I like to see.
-los Gonzalos are completely amazing, rock-solid defenders, who are occasionally caught napping and therefore GOLAZO (or almost GOLAZO).
-Ailing Jaime didn’t get to do much, but his replacement Niell stormed up the sides a few times and almost earned the other team a red card. I like Niell. The guy is cool.
-Stratford, the resident Arsenal fan (which I love to see in a player, lol), replaced Niell and drifted more midfield to leave Emilio up front. Why they tried to sit on their 1-goal lead against the strong Jamaican side I don’t know. We didn’t get to see much of Stratford, but the fact that he got on the field alone impressed me.
-Simms, Burch (sometimes–he did slip a bit), and Fred were solid and good the whole time. Burch had the energy, Fred had the smoothness, Simms is just…you know, Simms, so it was all good over there.
-McTavish wasn’t all that great…until he scored (an ugly goal, but a goal).
-PERALTA IS HUGE!!!!
-Namoff wasn’t too wonderful, but he wasn’t handed all that many chances either. Emilio wasn’t great, but then again he isn’t quite the quick start guy.
All in all, I think the game was more a credit to Harbor View than it was bad for DCU.

By the way, the two guys who commentated on that game (Miles and some Caglieri guy, I think) were idiots. Look at the Booked for Dissent blog to understand the level of stupidity those commentators had going on.

I too will be at the DCU v Harbor View game at the RFK right next to Jon.
I hope Kpene comes on to score because that will kick start my heart.
